Ohio plats and Susanna town in early state history

The May issue of Along The Way highlights Ohio city plats from the horse and buggy era, noting Susanna in Clermont County as the first model town planned by Thomas Ashburn in 1816 with wide streets and a river promenade. It recalls Grandma's winter day chores and quotes Abraham Lincoln on law and liberty, linking historical memory to present reflection.

Bullskin Bridge Opening Expected on June 5

Project engineer Harold Lloyd of the State Highway Department said the U. S. 52 bridge over Bullskin Creek at Chile should open around the contract date of June 5. The bridge has been closed since April 5 after a floor section failed and wrecked a tractor trailer. Lloyd expects a second carpenters shift to speed form work and notes Vaughn Building Co. holds the emergency contract at 73449 dollars, with less substructure work than first thought. Local merchants say the closure hurt business and travelers face difficulties returning.
