Ford Plant Reopens After Five Week Shutdown
After a five week shutdown 1389 workers returned March 16 to Ford Motor Co Batavia Transmission Plant in Afton. Workers had been laid off ten weeks since Thanksgiving due to an inventory backlog of Escort and Lynx transmissions. A prior five week shutdown ran December to mid January as demand rose and the backlog eased. A UAW contract lets workers retain seniority when switching plants.
