The Amelia American Legion Bicentennial Post No 773 will dedicate its new post home at 231 East Ohio Pike Amelia on Sunday April 4 at 4 p.m. State commander Dominic V Belloni will lead the formal ceremony with past state commanders Robert Klipstine and P R Ttarcing ty wale dna tre pabie W Gar among those invited to attend. The event carries no admission charge and the post supports Buckeye Boys State and Girls State and other veteran service projects locally and statewide.
The American Diabetes Association Cincinnati Affiliate announces an open house for its diabetic children summer camp at Camp Allyn near Batavia on Sunday April 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. at 1414 Lake Allyn Road. Korean? No. Camp Korelitz runs two sessions July 18–24 for ages 12–17 and July 25–31 for ages 6–12. Call 221-2111 for information. Beginning with the March issue the Clermont Courier will raise its newsstand price to 25 cents due to rising costs. One year subscriptions remain at 5 dollars, and readers are urged to subscribe now for savings.
County commissioners approved rate hikes for Clermont County water and sewer users raising annual costs by about 34 dollars for a typical single family residence. Sewer up 50 cents per 1000 gallons to 2.35, water up 22 cents per 1000 gallons, with minimum increases of 24 dollars for sewer and 10.56 dollars for water annually. Beckers cited higher debt service for Nine Mile project and Waterworks improvements, plus increased maintenance costs and anticipated bond issues.
Governor James Rhodes signed the enabling bill for a third Clermont County common pleas judge last Thursday. Filing deadlines push the position into April with term start set January 2, 1983. Watson seeks first full term while Stearns and Rosenhoffer face primary challenges. commissioner race narrows to Croswell, Wiesenhahn, and Taylor with contest ongoing.
Commissioners last Thursday took under advisement a request from a Concerned Citizens group to investigate Clermont County Welfare Department Children's Services. The group cited ongoing problems and asked for an inquiry, while objections were raised about board powers and confidentiality. Parents in attendance described issues with services for children.
Thornton Gas Company displays a large 35 by 18 foot nylon American flag west of the Norfolk and Western Bridge in Batavia. District manager Boblezzi notes a need for a taller 60 foot pole and explains flags fly weekly for fiber care, with two flags at the rebuilt Main Street station that opens March 17.
A one mill levy for ten years to fund senior citizen programs appears on the June 8 primary ballot. If approved, revenues may be shared with 15 other agencies including Legal Aid Society and Metropolitan Housing Authority. The levy could raise about 1.07 million dollars annually, with distribution details still unresolved.
In Clermont County Ohio a split elections board voted 8 to 1 to retain Chaney, with Democrats Celebrezze and others opposing the move. Pearl Gohs and John Born urged termination citing party politics, while Celebrezze noted Chaney’s performance was not the issue and questioned discharging a content employee for intra party conflict. The dispute centers on party influence over board personnel and policy access.
Nine candidates filed for the newly created 66th Ohio House district in Clermont County. Republican contenders include Knobbie Ward Sue Fisher Allen Churchey Simons and Randy Carson. Democrats include Linda Wuerdeman and Leo Bradley with Lois Brown Dale running Independently. Libertarian John Montgomery. Ballot petitions due March 31. party primary June 8. District covers nine of Clermont’s townships plus two Loveland precincts.
