Virgil L. McQuitty a US Navy Electrician’s Mate third class son of Milford residents took part in Operation Pine Tree a sea assault drill off Southern California aboard USS Alamo from May 20 to 28. The exercise included 20 Pacific Fleet ships and 9 000 Marines from Camp Pendleton engaging simulated beach assaults. Marine Private Edward A. Huddleston of Milford completed Marine Recruit training in San Diego and will report to Camp Pendleton for advanced infantry training.
