Clermont Teens Shine At County Road-E-O

William S. Custer of Bethel, David Hope of Milford, and Douglas Adkins of Goshen placed first through third in the Clermont County Teen-age Road-E-O held at Cherry Grove Shopping Center. Custer will represent Clermont County at the June 20 State Road-E-O in Cincinnati, hosted by the Cincinnati Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Clermont County Samaritan Project forms for private welfare aid

The Clermont County Samaritan Project filed articles of incorporation and approved by laws with pro tem officers elected at Batavia Presbyterian Church. Curt R. Riddle serves as president with Lucian Line, C. J. Brandt, and Ed Humphreys as officers. The non profit, non sectarian group aims to coordinate aid through local organizations, raise funds voluntarily, and provide emergency relief while screening recipients through welfare or private groups.

Three Countians Earn OSU Degrees at Spring Commencement

Ohio State University graduated 2 721 in the 94 year history at spring commencement in Ohio Stadium. Dr. J G Harrar of the Rockefeller Foundation delivered the address. Funds Available to Aid Farmers in Ohio Flood Counties

The Secretary designates Clermont County as one of nine Ohio flood disaster areas under Public Law 85-58 with limited funds for emergency conservation measures. Farmers may qualify for cost sharing for ACP F4 practices if March 1964 flooding created new soil problems and high rehabilitation costs. Requests due by Aug 1, 1964. all F4 work due by Oct 1, 1964. Advanced Planning Funds Approved For East Fork Dam

Congressman William H. Harsha announces House Appropriations grants for flood control projects in the Sixth District. The package includes Big Darby Reservoir 1,000,000 for construction Deer Creek Reservoir 500,000 construction Paint Creek Reservoir 116,000 advanced planning Salt Creek Reservoir 200,000 advanced planning Caesar Creek Reservoir 150,000 advanced planning East Fork Reservoir 150,000 advanced planning. Harsha says these funds will curb unemployment and boost water supply recreation and flood control. He expects approval in Congress.

Union Two sewer bids below engineers estimates

Bids for two sewerage plants and a laboratory as part of the Union township project came in under consulting engineers estimates. Adrian Construction Co. submitted the low bid of 430 545. Barbeau Construction Management estimated 542 770.

St Veronica Fete Set for June Weekend at Mt Carmel

The annual St Veronica Church festival will run June 20 and 21 on Mt Carmel Tabasco Road grounds. Booths rides games and chicken and beef dinners will mark the event with a 1964 Dodge Dart given away Sunday night to aid funding for the church hall. Truck Victim's Funeral Friday

James Harvey Shonkwiler, 86, of New Richmond Nicholsville Rd., was struck and killed by a truck along the road near his home at 3 50 p m Tuesday. Alfred Demaris drove the truck. Dr. Phillips Greene, deputy coroner, pronounced him dead. Funeral services are set for 10 a m Friday at Lew F White Memorial funeral home with graveside rites at Greenlawn Cemetery, Ports mouth, Ohio. He was the husband of the late Ora Shonkwiler and there are no immediate survivors.

Saxbe will deliver the opening address at Batavia’s Sesquicentennial on Wednesday July 22 at 2 p.m. Gordon Rich and Judge Orville W Halbisch will extend greetings for Cincinnati and Clermont County respectively. The program includes Mayor Jamieson remarks, a descendant ceremony, archery by Nancy Vanderheide, and a concert by the sesquicentennial band directed by Hugh L. Nichols II.

Reeves Arraigned Today In Milford Shooting

Milford painter Thomas Reeves, 59, was arraigned in Clermont County court on second degree murder charges for the fatal shooting of Charles Ward, 48. Ward was found dead on Reeves’s US 50 trailer porch after an hourslong dispute about a car horn incident. Ward had fished nearby earlier. Reeves plans a not guilty plea citing home defense. Ward’s services were held, and he is survived by his widow Flossie and five sisters.
