Milford gains its first bank in Clermont County as Citizens Bank Company is authorized to operate in the town. The new branch will locate in the shopping center and open as soon as possible with Melvin Swope as president and a slate of officers and directors announced.
McGill and Smith report to county commissioners that the Mt Washington East area of 2150 acres would require about 2.25 million dollars to supply sanitary disposal for roughly 3,000 residents. Even a smaller system would cost about 15 dollars monthly per user, with no easy financing. Subdivisions in the area include Bachelier Heights Elmwood Havenhurst The Oppt Hal Cor and Mt Washington East among others.
G Edwin Burger of 155 Broadway Batavia retires July 1 after nearly 42 years with The A plant. He joined in 1927 as a groundman rising to staff supervisor and Clermont County clerk. A 1925 Williamsburg HS grad he and his wife live in Batavia with two children and four grandchildren. He aided Boy Scouts 14 years and held roles in Batavia Rotary First United Methodist Church and Masonic groups.
Eugene Vanlandingham and Glen Morefield led Goshen area building owners to protest the MGS water rates. They argued the rate hike would curb apartment development and favored studying impacts on laundromats and water haulers. Commissioners indicated ongoing study for fairness and potential rate reductions. Vanlandingham urged widening Woodville-Pike Road.
New Richmond merchants roll out a free patriotic decal promotion titled Display Your Patriotism during the pre Independence Day season. The 3 by 5 inch decals fit many display spaces and mark Clermont County's first such promotional effort. The New Richmond National Bank hosts the cooperative project headquarters.
About 30 workers, all local, will be employed on a 4 mile SR 125 resurfacing and widening in Clermont and Hamilton counties with a $200000 payroll. Brewer Co. is the apparent low bidder with a $500000 construction cost and completion set for November 30. County bids seek concrete and seal coat work across county roads. Open House for retarded children drew many officials and citizens. County Commissioners Blake, Cann and Bissantz visited briefly.
The Federal Office of Economic Opportunity evaluated three Clermont County clinics Children’s Dental Services Children’s Health Services and Head Start as part of the annual anti poverty program review. County officials Dr G P Weaver Dr Martin Saidleman and Robert Pardue met with state and federal staff at the County Service Center on May 28 to discuss effectiveness and possible program changes.
Miss Doris Wood seeks 50000 to establish a building fund for Batavia area libraries and 50000 for expanded facilities and salaries. The budget includes 207305 with a new bookmobile and overcrowding relief across Batavia Mt Carmel Bethel and Milford branches.
The Meyer family of Mt. Carmel sees multiple diplomas from Xavier University with Norbert Meyer and his wife Scarlett earning degrees and Gary Meyer also a business bachelor. Edward and Michael Collins siblings also graduate from Purcell High and UC prospects.
Clermont County officials discuss Senate Bill 305 which would share 70 percent of interest from investments in bonds with schools and local municipalities. County Treasurer Byron Ross notes past practices and emphasizes unobligated funds. the Ohio Association of County Commissioners warns the bill could harm counties.
