By 1680 the village had 20 houses with a store and a tobacco warehouse nearby. Smith's Landing, founded by Captain Alexander Smith around 1880, once ran a ferry to Kentucky and housed a store and warehouse until floods and relocation altered its fortunes. Today a marine dealership and feed mill remain within the two village boundaries as Bullskin Creek and the Ohio host campers and boaters each season.
