County treasurer certifies 1981 interest income at 851962.48

Clermont County Treasurer Albert E. Hines reports that the county collected 851,962.48 in interest during 1981 on 30,000 certificates, a sum the official had anticipated. Robert Croswell, president of the Clermont County Board of Commissioners, commends Hines as doing a fine job with a sizable amount.

U S 52 repairs begin in Clermont townships

Ohio Department of Transportation says work starts mid January to improve US 52 from Monroe to the Brown County line in Laid and de of New 1ad area. Project funded by Federal-Aid Hazard Elimination Progress Funds. Traffic will be maintained and motorists urged to use caution through the construction zone.

Columbus Clermont schools receive 1.787 million state funds

The Columbus Clermont region schools were awarded 1,787,498.94 dollars from the December state school foundation aid. The report, prepared by Stet. Thomas E. Ferguson, notes the money will be allocated to nine districts.

Grand jury to probe county official pay raises

A grand jury will investigate county commissioners for failing to grant pay raises to Clermont County elected officials. George Pattison and Stapleton, former Brown County prosecutor, will conduct the inquiry. Pattison declined to discuss details, citing ongoing proceedings and a judge's remarks at a Jan. 29 hearing where Judge Louis Schwartz anticipated dismissal of a related suit.

County school board approves six percent raise in budget

The Clermont County School Board votes a 6 percent increase, raising the budget to 1.821 million dollars for the year. The plan includes staff reorganizations with cuts and additions across secretaries, speech therapists, psychologists, education supervisors, and teachers. An April evaluation of the board staff will be conducted by board members and an Ohio school official each month at 9 a.m. in the Heritage Building offices. Philip R. Carson, former board president, is named legislative liaison to the OSBA and Catherine Massett is hired as a therapist by contract Riley Hall through June. Superintendent’s meetings occur monthly on the third Thursday.

Temporary jail cells approved for the SR 222 Service Center site with plans to house inmates at the facility. County officials reviewed similar units in Barre, Canada last year to inform the project and ensure suitable temporary housing.

Shayler Road speed limit request after fatal crash

Anthony DeFrancesco of 945 Shayler Road asked Union Township commissioners to lower the speed limit to 35 mph for a 400 foot stretch after the Christmas Eve crash that killed 17 year old Amy Susan Stephens on icy Shayler Road. He urged conspicuous death-curve signs, noting repeated fence damage and gunshot alarms from young drivers. County Engineer Walter Carter said limits are set by the Ohio Department of Highways and governed by the state sign manual.

Romohr Elected New President of County Commissioners

Romohr became the new president of the county commissioners after taking office January 2. He was nominated by fellow Republican Robert Croswell, who was last year’s board president and elected vice president. Democrat Jerry Carlier also joined the board, taking office January 3.

Man Dies in Vehicle Crash at Historical Home Site

Clermont County records its third traffic death of the new year as a 32 year old Bethel man died Friday night when his automobile struck a historic home. Police reported the incident occurred near Batavia causing fatalities.
