Christmas Day Fire Damages Batavia Home
A Christmas Day blaze at Mrs. Jane Speidel’s Grenange Street home in Batavia began likely from a faulty chimney around 4 30 p m as Christmas dinner was prepared. Firefighters confined the fire to the basement area with water damage on the first floor, saving 80 to 90 percent of contents. Speidel and her four children stayed with neighbors.
