The county and Clermont begin 1981 at midnight as bells frost with snow lacing many town edges. Clermont Newspapers staff extend greetings for a prosperous and happy year to all readers.
Clermont Newspapers Inc sponsors the First Baby of the Year contest with area merchants. The earliest birth in the new year wins gifts. entrants must be Clermont County residents for one month. Batavia hosts a New Year’s Eve dance at 2289 Foundry Ave and Pike. Music by Dennis Kittee at Hight. BYOB. Event begins at 9 p.m. in a local venue.
A Clermont County police officer leads a drug seminar at Maple Church on Rt. 774 near Hamersville on New Year’s Eve at 8 p.m. The format invites questions about children and parental actions against drugs. For more information call Rev. Phil Petrey at 752-9082.

The Clermont Branch of the YWCA will offer yoga classes at Milford Main School starting January 7 at 6 30 p m for beginners and 8 p m for intermediate. Eight sessions cost 15 dollars plus membership. Greater Cincinnati's sixth annual Skate-A-Thon to raise diabetes funds will be held in Clermont on Saturday February 21 1981. Sponsors will distribute entry forms after January 1 at Super X Stores rinks and schools with prizes including a 10 speed bicycle tape recorders and Kings Island passes. Local rinks Beechmont Rollarena Castle Skateland Loveland Dreamland Skate Mt Crab White Gables Goshen participate.

Elected Cler mont county officials may gain pay under a new state bill HB 1122. The measure allows four year increments for treasurer sheriff clerk of courts recorder prosecutor engineer and coroner with seven percent boosts in 1983 and 1984 for commissioners. Judges excluded. decision rests with the board of commissioners who must act by Jan. 1.
Harold and Horace Flannery of Clermont County are named 1980 Pacesetter Award recipients by the Clermont County Chamber of Commerce executive committee. The award, first given in 1974, will be presented at the annual dinner Friday January 23 1981 at the Syrian Oasis Banquet Hall. The brothers are noted for lifelong county residence and diverse business ventures including real estate development with Frank Messer Construction Co and various local enterprises.
Trustees deny Mauch and Martin commercial zoning after two hearings. Chelsea Moore Realtors seek B-1 to B-7 change on land at Eastgate Plaza West and nearby 3.65 acre parcel on old SR 74 from B-5 to partial B-7. County commissioner Romohr, on board since 1976, notes conditions warrant rezoning.
