Monumental Corner Stone Laying Amid Grand Army Parade in Indianapolis
Indianapolis witnessed a grand ceremony for the Soldiers and Sailors Monument corner stone with President Harrison in attendance. Tens of thousands joined processions, regiments and civic groups, and speakers including General M. D. Mansfield and General Coburn addressed the crowd. The six ton limestone stone was laid as the crowd roared and the Star Spangled Banner was sung. The monument, to rise 208 feet, will stand in Circle Park and honor Indiana’s war dead.

Curious Experiment on Self Judgement by an Editor
A Boston Transcript editor tests impartiality by mailing his own light magazine story back as if from another contributor. He includes a note and stamps, waits for feedback, and receives a critical reply labeling the piece too discursive but promising with effort. A second short item notes a dog named Boss blessing the master with prayers. Another quip about a governess ad ends with a punning exchange.
