Space travel risks seen in rat study muscle and bone loss
NASA researchers report that rats flown in Spacelab 3 show significant muscle and bone deterioration in weightlessness, with fast and slow twitch muscles affected and bones weaker by about half the force needed to break. Results hint at irreversible human risks on long missions. Further tests planned for 1987.
