A joint U.S.-French expedition located the Titanic wreck in 13,000 feet of water 560 miles off Newfoundland. The question now is whether the luxury liner can be raised, following its 1912 sinking after hitting an iceberg near Southampton.
United Auto Workers Local 425 at Lorain Ford Assembly plant faces a midnight Sunday strike deadline after four months of stalled local grievances. National Ford Department and Ford Union Relations staff meet as 92 percent of members approved an Aug. 1 strike vote amid unresolved health and safety issues and a prior 1976 plant walkout.
Pat Collier, survivor of Hurricane Elena on Dauphin Island, recalls his wrecked trailer and the island’s devastation as 120 mph winds and a surge tore through the western end. About 600 homes damaged or destroyed, mostly vacation cottages, with some mobile homes ripped apart.

Investigators say intruders, two teens, burglarized the DeChants home on Case Road stealing a small case and a car later found in Lorain. Greg DeChant survived after being stabbed in the back. funeral arrangements are planned with his brothers and relatives attending.
Ohio State tailback Keith Byars, a leading Heisman candidate, suffered a broken right foot during a Monday practice. He will be in a cast for 10 to 14 days and is expected to miss one to three games.
Guardsmen and police patrolled the Gulf Coast as Hurricane Elena's devastation mounted. In Pascagoula, Mississippi, most businesses were closed after the storm tore ashore, with trees downed and homes damaged. Governor Allain toured the area as Red Cross workers described extensive ruin.
