Thompson claims self defense in street shooting case
Charles D. Thompson, 41, a paroled convict, is questioned at Central Police station in Cleveland after a street fight in which James Oates, 38, died and Thomas Scott, 41, was wounded. Detectives say both men may have been involved in policy gambling slips. Thompson says he posed as a federal agent and fought in self defense. Thompson, from Des Moines, was paroled Oct. 15 after a Mansfield forgery sentence.
