Ghosts goblins and unusual creatures will parade downtown Elyria at 7 p.m. Monday for the municipal Halloween celebration. Bands including Elyria High School and the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps will lead to Ely Park where Odd Fellows, Bill Struck, and Seven Come Eleven bands perform. Cider and doughnuts will be dispensed from six booths, with 200 dozen doughnuts and two hundred cask of cider set up. National Guard will help manage the crowd per A H West the general chairman.

Fear of Tank Car Explosion Triggers Evacuation in Elyria
Railroad crew on a New York Central freight train spotted smoke from a Grasselli Chemical tank car and moved it to a siding. Firefighters and a Harshaw chemist found the car empty save for bottom slugs. fumes caused the visible smoke. The car, formerly containing sulphuric acid, was to be moved to Cleveland once the system was secured. In Portsmouth, William Burton was shot dead in his home as county officers pursued Tom Perkins for questioning.

Man Shot by Alleged Sweetheart in Domestic Fracas
William Roscoe Pierce, 29, of 118 Center Street, was shot in the left chest by Polly Jones, 25, at 25 West Avenue following a dispute. Pierce escaped serious injury and returned home after treatment at Memorial Hospital. Jones was arraigned before Mayor W H Van Oster, bond set at 1000, with further hearing scheduled next Friday. Police say the incident began when Pierce visited the Jones residence and assaulted Polly as Ada Warren, Polly’s aunt, witnessed the event.
