Murder Suspect Found Guilty with Mercy Recommendation
Homer Jack Dean, 39, a former bartender already serving life as an habitual criminal, was found guilty of first degree murder with a mercy recommendation by a six by six juror panel after an 18 hour deliberation. Dean, who says he is innocent, faced another life sentence and immediate motions for a new trial were filed by his attorney James F. Henderson. The case centers on the Dec 10, 1947 killing of Elmo C. Rice, a real estate dealer lured from his home over a used car deal.
