Drivers Allowed Until Nov 1 To Acquire Licenses

Ohio allows a grace period for unlicensed drivers until November 1 after state registrar Frank West announced a one month extension. Elyria deputy registrars saw crowds as applicants rushed to obtain licenses, including chauffeurs, amid a large backlog and a fee reduction that boosted applications. Police will favor correction over prosecution during October, with officers warned to inform drivers of the requirement and to avoid arrests before November. West estimated over a million Ohioans remain without licenses.
