Printing Costly to Taxpayers of the W Budget

Washington dispatch details high costs from congressional printing graft. Surplus materials flood the House folding room including 87,000 copies of eased member biographies, 115,000 copies of Agricultural Year Books from 1906 onward, and extensive soil surveys costing about 60 cents a copy. Printing expenses totaled about 2 million dollars last year with 71 million copies produced and 607 thousand sold. A large portion of Farmers’ Instruction leaflets are distributed by congressmen with franks, often replacing other items. The piece notes debate over expanding free-mall use for mass printing and criticizes taxpaper burden. Also a salmon story from Grants Pass describes a large chinook leaping into a rowboat on the Rogue River.
