Boston May 28 survivors aboard the City of Chattanooga tell of skill and courage after the Steamer Grecian sank a freighter. Vernon Parker, trapped in the engine room, crawled to safety through swirling water and fought delirium for hours while fellow sailors restrained him until relief. Four seamen died off Block Island and nine injured were limped to hospital or treated aboard. Captain C G Borum guided the Chattanooga to pin the hole and keep the Grecian afloat for 14 minutes.

Car Crash Leaves Couple Severely Injured in Detroit
Severe injuries were sustained by Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Peton of 1229 Goulsen Street Detroit when their car skidded near 496 Cleveland Street about 4 20 p m today and struck a tree. They were taken to Memorial Hospital where Mr. Peton 48 suffered chest injuries and Mrs. Peton 50 had a broken nose and facial lacerations from shattered windshield.

Man Bound Over After Gas Station Burglary Case
Tony Carroll of Boston pleaded not guilty and was bound over to the grand jury on burglary charges connected to Matt Gardner’s gas station on Oberlin road. A yellow roadster tied to the burglary was found abandoned in a ditch away from the station and out of gas. Two accomplices remain at large. Carroll is the 12th person shot or captured at Gardner’s station.

Garner Determined to Push His Unemployment Plan
Washington May 28 Speaker Garner vows to push a 2.147 billion unemployment relief bill through the House despite President Hoover labeling it a gigantic pork barrel. The fight centers on a billion-dollar public works provision funding more than 2,000 post offices and Federal buildings via a bond issue. Hoover says many post office projects are wasteful and would unbalance the budget. Garner retorts that if Hoover had suggested the bill it would not be pork. He argues the plan funds infrastructure and taxes would raise 430 million a year to cover interest and fund needs.
