Open Golf Qualifier Stages at Elyria Course
The sectional qualifier for the 1950 National Open was held yesterday at Elyria Country Club as part of two major events this year. Carl Bindbeutel narrowly missed the eight qualifying spots with an 18-hole 149, and Eddie Wentz and Denny Shute featured among visitors. Local pros included John Fitzpatrick, who fell one stroke behind after a late three putt, while Shute and Thacker tied for top honors with 144 across 36 holes. A photographer mixed up would‑be portraits, and Elyria announced a new clubhouse opening date soon.
