Lorain eyes panel to up business
Lorain councilman Ken Shawver proposes a three member committee to survey local businesses and promote the city. He seeks reasons for departures, urges tax abatement as a tool, and argues fresh water shortages may push firms back from the south. The plan will go to the council's legislative committee for discussion next Monday.

Endplay and elimination play in a spade contract
West leads clubs in a four spades by South scenario. South wins with the ace and attempts endplay against East after eliminations. East ends up on lead, but South can ruff, discard, and then use a heart finesse to reach the contract. A trump or diamond return by East can ruin plans.

Lorain utilities department wins an 8 to 3 council vote to buy two new trucks a station wagon and a sedan totaling about 35000 from water and sewer funds despite objections that the move will raise water bills.
