A 19 year old fugitive from the Grafton State Farm, Robert C. Leffel of North Madison, was shot in the back by an Ashtabula County deputy during an escape attempt. He was listed in fair condition at Hammet Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania, after being treated in intensive care overnight.

Tree Crashes Into Wellington Home When Lightning Strikes
A lightning bolt toppled a large tree that collapsed through the living room ceiling of Lloyd G. Trigg’s home in Wellington. Five residents and three guests escaped injury as they watched a hockey game. 15-year-old Sharon Trigg was bruised by falling plywood. Water poured in from the storm as neighbors aided cleanup, and damage could reach $5,000.
