Longer Seaway season opposed by New York official
James A. Fitzpatrick, chairman of the Power Authority of New York, argued at a Cleveland seminar that ice breaking in the St. Lawrence Seaway to lengthen the eight month shipping season would create more problems than it solves. He warned removing the Niagara ice boom to flush Lake Erie ice could endanger properties and people along the Niagara River and threaten power production and regional economies.
