Youths linked to clinic drug theft in Lorain accident

A two car crash at Rt 57 and Grafton Road led to three Elyria youths being held on old warrants tied to a clinic drug theft. A 15 year old girl riding in the stolen car was found in a shack and later treated for overdose symptoms.

Two youths Arrested After Hitchhiking Girl Incident

Deputies say a 16-year-old youth and Perkins were arrested after a 16-year-old girl claimed she hitchhiked, attended a party, and took five capsules. Investigators found 12 capsules in Perkins pockets matching three types from the car. The girl recalled nothing after ingesting the pills.

Trains Collide in Montana Killing Four

Two Burlington Northern freight trains collided head on on a winding curve near Great Falls Montana around midnight. Four people were killed in the wreckage and authorities had not yet identified the victims. The scene described a chaotic aftermath with mangled cars and debris strewn about.

Nixon plan delays $2 minimum wage hike to 1974

The Nixon administration urged Congress to slow the next step of minimum wage increases. Secretary Hodgson supported raising the starting floor to 1.80 by Jan 1 but opposed a further jump to 2.00 a year later citing inflation and unemployment risks. He proposed a 1.60 for youths and under 18 and kept 1.60 for 18-19 year olds for six months.

Quake hits Turkey Burdur area kills and injures hundreds

A powerful earthquake struck Burdur and surrounding villages in southern Turkey. At least 58 people were killed and hundreds injured. Officials report extensive destruction with 70 percent of Burdur buildings destroyed and many villages collapsing. Emergency aid and a mobile hospital were dispatched as troops searched for victims.
