Slow progress on North Ridgeville library move project

The old city hall on Center Ridge Road sits empty a year after the new municipal complex opened and plans to move the branch library stalled. A $52,000 federal grant was denied by the Ohio Historic Site Preservation Board, with a reapplication planned, while two civic groups have raised only $7,217 of an $18,100 goal. Attempts to mobilize city funds and hold fundraisers like Las Vegas Night and a Corn Festival drive have yielded limited results, leaving essential equipment and interior work unfunded.

Ridgeville teachers win 6 percent raises for two years

North Ridgeville Board of Education approved a contract granting teachers a 6 percent pay increase in each of the next two school years. The agreement passed 4-1 with R. Daniel Taylor dissenting. The package includes $38,800 minimum salary with a bachelor’s, $9,325 to $17,697 max for advanced degrees, and fringe benefits. The cost for 1976-77 is $22,812. Supt. Beitler praised the negotiation as fair and smooth. Taylor argued the raises are too costly and inflated by stacked raises. The board also hired a part time psychologist, Mrs. Karastin Olofsson, at $60 per day for 11 weeks.
