Play set mishap kills girl in Amherst Township
Melinda Ann Lindsey, 3, daughter of Clifford and Mary Lindsey, died in a backyard swing slide incident behind a mobile home. Deputies say she was found unresponsive at 7 20 pm and pronounced dead at Amherst Hospital. Coroner ruled accidental suffocation. She would have been four in October. She leaves a 9‑month‑old sister Melissa.

NAACP seeks withholding of federal funds from Oberlin schools
Oberlin NAACP asks State Superintendent Martin Essex to suspend federal funds to Oberlin schools pending two investigations of racial discrimination. In a letter, chapter president Thomas Ellis cites a US Attorney General ruling permitting withholdings, noting five federally funded programs in Oberlin.
