Velotta Slain In Cleveland Bootleg Racketeering Case
Charles Velotta, 27, noted bootlegger and alleged racketeer, was found dying on Mayfield road with a silk stocking around his neck and body riddled by shotgun slugs. Police suspect a bootleg dispute. Velotta died two hours later. Detectives pursue two men seen talking with him minutes before the shooting. Velotta allegedly chauffeured for Ernest Yorkeil and Jack Brownstein, then linked to hijacking or shake-down schemes. Brothers urged police to drop the case as Velotta’s estranged wife’s whereabouts were unclear.

Remembering Lorain County's Civil War Heritage in Elyria
A narrative recalls early Lorain County militias marching through Elyria with blue coats and plumes, led by N B Gates on Bucephalus, linking volunteer mobilizations to Lincoln's 300000 call and the 1862 spirit mentored by local women aiding soldiers. It reflects on commemorations, veterans' parades, and the enduring monument, then shifts to local 1819 1822 county formation, court house sites, and the historic jail near Main Street before the 1893 fire.
