Attorneys Fight To Save Hauptmann From The Chair

In Trenton New Jersey six lawyers argued to save Bruno Richard Hauptmann from the electric chair claiming the trial was not impartial. They contended the German carpenter was not guilty of the Lindbergh kidnapping and murder and that the Flemington jury erred. The defense charged the state misled the jury and changed its theory during trial while the judge failed to protect rights. The appeal hinges on due process, improper conduct by the attorney general, and questions about venue and evidence including handwriting and ladder testimony.
