Promoters Seek Maxs Services For Champion Schmeling

New York June 16 General recognition of Max Schmeling the world heavyweight champion is forecast by flood offers from many nations. He has already received two requests to defend his title, including a $300000 bid from Water Lewis promoter to meet the winner of a Chicago bout between Otto Von Porat and a Georgia fighter. A Jersey City ballpark bout and various offers for personal appearances have arrived from across the United States and six foreign countries. Schmeling’s manager said the champ is not ready to accept offers yet and needs time to think. It is unlikely he will fight in the U S before next June, with possible bout in Germany against an American. The NBA already recognizes Schmeling, and New York State Athletic Commission action is pending. Some doubt remains if his name will be placed on the trophy by the Tunney-Molloy committee.
