Milwaukee June 17 A 17 year old Donald Aiken swam nearly a mile through 45 degree water to reach and rescue four men aboard the disabled fruit boat Mary Margaret after it struck a rock near Grant Point. Captain Eagles urged volunteers, coast guard tow arrived as Aiken braved the cold. Ambrose Stump failed his first attempt but Aiken pressed on until the cutter towed the vessel to safety.

Barbertown slashing case leads to jail for wife
In Barbertown Ohio Mrs Margaret Taylor 22 wife of Charles Taylor was jailed on a charge of slashing his first wife Pauline 30 with a knife after allegedly invading the home and delivering a tongue lashing. Pauline was not seriously wounded. In Norwalk Ohio Mrs Robert E Renfro of Carbondale Illinois was killed and Dr Mary Steagill of the same city was seriously injured when their auto collided with a machine driven by W A Appleman of Toledo. The Applemans were bruised. Rain caused the crash as they traveled to Brooklyn to sail for Europe. Federal postal inspectors probe a mailbox theft in St Clairsville Ohio tied to County Auditor Homer G Finley. In Portsmouth Ohio chiropractors Mr and Mrs O L Kenchtly faced a fine of 250 dollars plus costs instead of paying.

Auto hits bridge driver lacerted near Eaton Center
Ralph Roy aged 19 of Strongsville was injured when his car struck a one way bridge two miles west of Eaton Center on Route 82. He said he was looking for a handkerchief when the accident occurred. He suffered facial and hand lacerations but was otherwise uninjured, hospital officials said.
