Elyria Schools receives 105000 grant for reading program
Elyria School District will expand the Wilson Fundations early literacy program to all kindergarten through second grade classrooms for 2010 11 after a $105000 grant from the Stocker Foundation funds materials training and teacher implementation. The program uses a brain based multi sensory approach with a phonics focused lesson featuring Big Echo the owl puppet and flashcards to teach sounds and spelling.

Cornerstone Among Women Receives Foundation Grant
The Community Foundation of Lorain County awarded a $1000 grant to Cornerstone Among Women as part of its 30th birthday celebration. Cornerstone, founded in 1986, offers crisis pregnancy intervention and nonmedical support in Elyria and Rocky River, including free pregnancy tests, counseling, adoption and parenting classes, support groups, a new dad bootcamp, and diaper and formula assistance. The foundation has previously given Cornerstone over $95,000, including $7500 in 1998 for a new mothers at risk for abuse support group.
