Toddler Drowns In Neighbor's Pool In Ridgeville

A two year old girl Allison Dutton wandered from her home on Main Ave North Ridgeville and was found unresponsive in a neighbor’s above ground pool at 5430 Main Ave. She was transported to EMH Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead at 1 41 p m Coroner Paul Matus ruled accidental drowning with no foul play. Police investigate and neighbors declined to comment.

Teacher in Cleveland crash remains in critical condition

Noemi Pagan, a Garfield Elementary School teacher, remains in critical condition after a head on collision in the 4300 block of Broadway. Construction worker Joseph Payma, 48, swerved left of center to avoid a bicyclist, and both drivers were extricated by firefighters. Payma’s condition upgraded to good.

Lorain High to Merge Admiral King and Southview

The Lorain school district will merge Admiral King and Southview high schools into Lorain High School starting in the fall. Class president Jasmine Garcia praised the district, noting the best is saved for last during the final Admiral King graduation.

Guards find shanks in Neil Simpson cell at Lorain jail

Lorain County jail staff recovered three homemade knives, or shanks, among Neil Simpson's personal effects during a routine search. Two additional shanks were found in his cell, and three more appeared in the pod common area along with a larger metal piece used to fashion the weapons. Jose Velez shared a cell with Simpson.

Ford to drop Mercury brand by end of 2010

Ford Motor Co will discontinue Mercury after 72 years as sales decline. The move aims to cut costs and refocus on Ford and Lincoln, with Lincoln’s lineup expanded to compensate and support for Lincoln-Mercury dealers. Derrick Kuzak says seven new or revamped Lincoln vehicles are planned.
