New two CDs offered by area banks and thrifts
The government authorized two new certificates of deposit in the region to boost investments in banks and savings and loan associations. One eight year CD requires a $1,000 minimum with banks at 7.25 percent and savings and loans about 8 percent. A six month money market CD requires a $10,000 minimum with rates tied to weekly Treasury bill auctions and renewed at prevailing six month rates. Most institutions participate. Lorain National Bank and Firelands Community Bank skip eight year CDs and money market CDs, while Thrift Federal and First Federal skip the latter.

Klimczak warned that no plan would satisfy all, and adjournment followed with two members absent.
