Arson Blamed In Wellington Fires Damaging Several Block
A string of arson fires in Wellington struck the East Herrick Ave business district at 4 a.m. damaging two stores and a third heavily. Western Auto, Looks Unlimited, and Wellington Auto Parts were gutted or heavily damaged. A barn at 356 Prospect St and a downtown blaze also were blamed on arson. An investigator from the state fire marshal’s office was to join today.

Wellington Auto Parts Fire Destroys Historic Storefront
A pre-dawn blaze gutted Wellington Auto Parts at 121 East Herrick Ave, ending its 33 year operation. The store front, once photographed for TRW and CT features with local residents and a Tiffany lamp, is now a fire damaged shell tied to the building’s 19th century carriage shop past and Archibald M. Willard’s Spirit of 76 link.

Bomb Damages St Jude School In Westside Incident
A homemade pipe bomb was tossed onto the driveway of St Jude Elementary School at 594 Poplar St shortly before 9 p.m. Friday. The blast shattered eight windows and damaged a classroom but caused no injuries. Police believe the device exploded midair and recovered pipe fragments. Witnesses saw a green car flee the scene. The bomb will be sent to ATF for analysis and a full investigation is urged by Elyria officials.
