Lorain County narrows path to tax dispute settlement
Lorain County commissioners propose raising Lorain city share of state local government funds to end the tax dispute. If approved, Lorain would receive 500000 this year and 640110 next year, with the county sharing costs. The plan, outlined in a letter by Assistant County Prosecutor Gerald Innes, faces opposition from Sheffield Mayor Darlene Ondercin and local officials who fear fairness and impact on other municipalities.

Budget squeeze for Lorain County Transit funding plan
Eastern Lorain County authorities begin operating under a new budget plan with more federal money headed to the rest of the county. LCT may receive about 1.2 million less or more depending on the system chosen. Mohr considers private foundations and more contracts to fill gaps while warning no fat exists in the current budget. County Budget Director Rokasy notes a commissioners resolution is needed to guarantee the 1.2 million figure. The plan prioritizes debt and mandated services before discretionary spending, with bake sales as a last resort.
