White couple fights Connecticut policy to adopt black baby
In Vernon Connecticut the white foster parents of a four month old black child challenge what they call an unwritten state policy against interracial adoptions. State social worker George Lincoln testified he placed the infant with the Lusas at five days old on March 16 for a temporary home and did not know of such a policy. The Lusas seek to keep the child as a foster child pending adoption, arguing the state seeks to reclaim the baby for a more suitable home. The attorney general says the couple has the child illegally. Judge Harry Hammer allows custody to continue pending the hearing outcome. Lincoln apologized in court for the error in judgment.

31 Bodies Left in Defunct Kansas City Mortuary
Kansas City health officials uncovered 31 decaying bodies in a closed midtown mortuary, many in caskets or on tables. In the basement three high stacks and a sheet moving revealed the grisly scene as investigators described a filthy, abandoned site with embalming fluids on the floor. Authorities noted missing death certificates and an ongoing effort to revoke owner Don Coldsnow’s license brought by the Missouri Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors.
