Oberlin residents will see a 30 percent cut in August electricity bills due to cost saving moves in the electric department led by utilities director Raymond Cristell. An average 500 kilowatt hour usage drops from $27 to $2.60, while the base rate stays unchanged. The energy adjustment clause and customer discount have shaved about 21.6 percent on average over seven months, a policy begun after Cristell joined the city in December following a 1975 ordinance setting the discount target.
At the Amherst Historical Society Jamboree Mayor Anthony DePaola won a pie throwing contest by collecting 70 votes while about 40 participants paid $1 to throw vanilla pudding pies at Reph realtor Ray Haff and Service Director Dave Taylor. The event raised 170 dollars for restoring city hall's second floor.
