Thirdhand smoke forms carcinogens from indoor nitrous acid
Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory report that nitrous acid in indoor air reacts with nicotine on surfaces to produce tobacco specific nitrosamines TSNAs. The study shows TSNAs increase tenfold after exposure to nitrous acid, highlighting a new route of exposure via skin dust and ingestion, especially risky for children and infants.
