Historic steam train chugs through Arizona's White Mountain range
In McNary Arizona the White Mountain Scenic Railway runs a 44 mile five hour trip through ponderosa pine forests and streams. Reed Hatch, president and chief engineer, restored two steam locomotives from California and Kansas Texas Railroad coaches to operate six trips a week. The trip includes water stops, beaver dam views, wildlife, and a barbecue at Apache Springs. Hatch started in 1924 and built a family operation using Apache Railway track leased from Southwest Forest Industries.
