Nixon sees peace in Vietnam and cautious Middle East hope

President Nixon told CBS Morning News that peace is certain for U S involvement in Vietnam as troops are withdrawn and replaced by South Vietnamese. He noted some hope for the Middle East cease-fire and downplayed a U S Soviet peace-keeping force. He urged patience as Paris talks resume and predicted no new U S initiatives, while emphasizing a flexible negotiating position. Fire Forces Evacuation Near Mon santo Chemical Plant

About 500 residents were ordered to flee a one mile square area near the Monsanto Chemical Co plant east of New Lexington Ohio as a fierce blaze in a chemical tank threatened to ignite explosive materials. Sheriff Tom Wilson said firefighters were waiting for the fire to burn out as they could not extinguish it. The plant on Ohio 45 manufactures mining explosives and alerted officials at 7 a.m.
