Amherst to pay for improvements in Lorain

Amherst City Council voted 6-1 to borrow 95,600 at 5.5 percent to cover local costs for traffic lights and road work on Route 58 at Cooper Foster Park Road and Cleveland Avenue. The project totals 407,000 with the state covering the rest. Mayor DePaola criticized rising costs from three years ago, noting 30,000 cars use the intersection daily. Lorain has maintained the intersection and may cooperate in the future. The council also approved settling an Ohio Edison rate dispute for a 146,054 refund to be returned as no January 1979 billing.
