James Sweet of 9491 Island Road faces felonious assault charges after a rifle shooting spree at his home on Monday night. Bond set at 106000 dollars. A Sept 1 preliminary hearing is planned in Elyria Municipal Court. No injuries were reported.

Judge says Bracik was wrongly dismissed as fire chief
A Lorain County judge heard that George Bracik was fired from Elyria Township Fire Department for rules the trustees allegedly invalidly adopted. Bracik’s lawyer argued the trustees acted with no authority and violated sunshine laws while Bracik maintained the chief was wrongly removed after more than two decades of service.

Grant expands half fare bus program in Elyria
The Lorain County Transit Board receives a 14000 grant from Ohio DOT to keep half fares for elderly and disabled riders on fixed route buses. The 56 cent fare applies to seniors and the disabled, with a new Elyria loop service slated for early September. More than 2.7 million statewide riders will benefit.
