Milan Council Seeks Ruling On Action Over Storm Sewer Bid
Milan village faces a pending ruling from solicitor John Phefferle on whether action at the last council meeting to advertise bids for a new storm sewer for the Gould plant addition on Lockwood Road was valid as an emergency measure. Three votes favoring passage plus abstentions and an absent member failed to meet the five votes needed. A prior two-meeting ordinance passed with similar votes also awaits Phefferle’s decision. A separate ruling found the July 18 zoning hearing void due to no quorum, with a new hearing set for Aug. 17 at 8 p.m. at the town hall to consider the plant's setback change from 50 to 30 feet. The council approved $2 per month retroactive pay raises for village employees and noted a gas rate increase of 4.4 cents per 1,000 cubic feet after Aug. 13. Northern Ohio Telephone’s variance zoning hearing remains unscheduled, with steps sent to the company.
