Spencer officials deny state charges and defend bond signing
Spencer officials refute state auditor claims about improper bonds for the sewer project. Clerk Donald Brouse and former mayor Milford Taylor say payments of 70 and 73.25 dollars were council authorized for time signed to bonds. They acknowledge volunteers as firemen and contest retirement-exemption charges involving five part-time workers.

Suit to block Lorain hearing over commissioners
Two Lorain civil service commissioners Louise Rosso Jr. and John Haenik face an Aug. 18 dismissal hearing and have filed a state appeals court suit to bar Mayor Joseph Zahorec from acting as hearing officer.
