Elyria Hosts Largest Parade For Bicentennial Celebration
Elyria marked its 200th birthday with a record parade along a two mile route from Elyria Catholic High School to Elyria High School. More than 110 units and 1,200 participants attended including the Apple Festival princess and a living statue of founder Heman Ely. The Elyria High School band, mostly volunteer, joined the celebration as drum majors highlighted the city’s birthday party atmosphere.
