Elyria Council Sends Back Garbage Truck Plan For Review
Elyria City Council referred the bidding plan for new garbage trucks back to the Public Utilities Safety and Environmental Committee after a split vote. Councilwoman Mary Siwierka cited conflicting fuel mileage data and container materials as reasons to delay. Mayor Bill Grace and City Auditor Ted Pileski warned delaying could cost tens of thousands of dollars. Siwierka said she was voting her conscience due to insufficient information.

Man appears in court after North Ridgeville drug arrest
Deonte J. Smith, 32, appeared in Elyria Municipal Court facing felony drug trafficking charges after police stopped him for faulty taillights near I 480 and the Ohio Turnpike. Authorities found 190 grams of cocaine and 90 grams of heroin in the vehicle. Bond set at $35,000, preliminary hearing scheduled.

Spencer man Griffin charged in Ohio with aggravated murder in the shooting death of Alberto Gutierrez found in a Huntington Township ditch Thanksgiving Day. Shots fired into Howse's mom home in Elyria
In Elyria, four 9 mm shell casings were found after shots hit Christine Prokop's River Side Drive home around 2:30 a.m. Police saw a red Ford Explorer speeding by and noted previous shootings tied to Howse family members. The 19 year old Alverno Howse Jr. was recently sentenced to 13 years for the Chuckie Howard Jr. case. The incident remains under investigation.

Elyria native found dead under Cleveland bridge
A 27 year old Elyria woman, Rachel Sergent, was found dead January 17 under a Cleveland bridge near Train and Vega avenues. The Cuyahoga County coroner ruled hypothermia as the cause, with Sergent once employed as a dietary aide at Abbewood retirement community in Elyria.
