Judge Paul D. Van Nostran announces the juvenile court will directly supervise the detention home at the rear of the county jail starting Thursday. Four detention supervisors will be hired and the facility will house boys aged 14 to 18 separately from adult violators.
Supervisors plan a separate booking and reporting system for juveniles with a common entrance to the county jail and a later detached entry. Judge Van Nostran says the sheriff will feed detained youths but provide no guards, while under-14 delinquents remain at the juvenile detention home on 4th Street SE.
