Dewey Urges Economic Unity for Western Europe
Governor Thomas E. Dewey told Lions International delegates in New York that western Europe should be welded into an economic unit like the United States and Marshall Plan funds should prioritize that goal. He urged quick Senate ratification of the North Atlantic Treaty with enthusiasm and warned against aiding pet socialist or nationalist projects. He argued economic unity would raise living standards, reduce dependence on wartime sacrifice, and strengthen Europe while noting resistance from some nations.
