The article contrasts England and Denmark New Year practices with older customs. It notes bell ringing in England and cannon salutes in Copenhagen. Reapportionment plan trims southern Republican delegates

The Republican National Committee plan, if ratified by state conventions, reduces southern delegation power at the next national convention. Alabama loses 9 delegates, Florida 2, Georgia 10, Mississippi 8, South Carolina 7, North Carolina 3, Virginia 9, Texas 15, with Michigan and others largely unchanged. Supporters call the change wise to reduce the south’s influence in nominating candidates.
