New Mexico Lakes Offer Varied Fishing Reports Across Regions
Catch rates vary by lake with kokanee and rainbows in demand near shorelines. Rio Grande below Cochiti shows flows around 3 730 cfs, slow fishing near Pilar at 1 960 cfs, and anglers report few trout on weighted flies and worms. Ute Lake shines with bass and walleye activity, Abiquiu best for smallmouth and catfish, and Chama River sections slow to good depending on fly patterns and baits. El Vado, Fenton, Heron, and Navajo Lakes show mixed results, with kokanee, rainbow, trout, and crappie cited. Hopewell Lake remains closed for renovations until fall.
